NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution’s The Meredith Vieira Show has become the first freshman syndicated talk show to get picked up for Season 2 as its launch group, the NBC Owned Television Stations, has renewed it. As was the case with Katie Couric’s Katie and The Queen Latifah Show, the renewal was pretty much a formality as the high-profile talkers had been sold in mostly two-year deals.
Meredith is a member of a solid freshman class of syndication entries. It most recently averaged a 1.2 household rating last week, tied with quiz show Celebrity Name Game. Judge Judy spinoff Hot Bench led the pack with a 1.5, while panel talk show The Real drew a 1.0. Meredith just hit a series high in the target demo of Women 25-54 last week with a 0.7. Still, that was behind the fellow rookies, which are all younger skewing: Craig Ferguson-hosted Celebrity Name Game (0.9, also series high) and Hot Bench and The Real, both at a 0.8. The Real is really strong with younger women, ranking as No.1 in women 18-34, women 18-49 and women 25-54.
