In a top-level showrunner pairing, Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids creator/executive producer Marc Cherry has partnered with Under The Dome showrunner Neal Baer for an action-adventure mystery drama project, Cheerleader Death Squad, which has been set up at the CW through CBS TV Studios, where Baer has an overall deal. Cherry and Baer will co-write the script with Blue Bloods executive producer Dan Truly, and the trio will executive produce alongside Cherry’s partner in Cherry/Wind Productions, Sabrina Wind.
Described as “Heathers meets Alias“, Cheerleader Death Squad centers on a disgraced CIA agent-turned-teacher at an elite Washington D.C. prep school. When he realizes that his students have high-level access through personal connections, he trains a select few to be his eyes and ears into the world of international espionage and help him earn his way back into the agency.
In a follow-up to his global hit Desperate Housewives, Cherry developed Devious Maids, based on a Mexican series, which recently was renewed by Lifetime for a third season. Cherry executive produces the mystery drama and served as showrunner the first two seasons. Baer is executive producer/showrunner of CBS’ summer drama series Under The Dome, also recently renewed for a third season. He previously served in the same capacity on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, where Truly was a co-executive producer. The two have continued to work together, with Truly currently serving as a consulting producer on Under The Dome in addition to his duties on Blue Bloods, and last season, Baer and Truly co-wrote medical drama script The Three Behrs for CBS.
Cherry, Baer, Wind and Truly are repped by Paradigm. Cherry also is repped by attorneys Jon Moonves and Jean Tanaka; Baer, Truly and Wind by Michael Gendler.
