Summit Entertainment has staked out a date for Deepwater Horizon, the true story account of the devastating 2010 BP oil spill that Mark Wahlberg is starring in and JC Chandor is directing. The film from Participant Media and Lorenzo di Bonaventura’s di Bonaventura Pictures will hit theaters in wide release on September 30, 2016.

Script by Matthew Sand and Matthew Carnahan turns the worst oil spill since the Exxon Valdez into an action-drama, depicting what went down aboard the Deepwater Horizon in the 48 hours preceding April 20, 2010, the day an explosion killed 11 crew members and sparked a massive fireball that sunk the offshore oil rig and unloaded 210 million gallons of crude into the Gulf of Mexico.
