SPOILER ALERT: This story contains details of Sunday night’s The Simpsons episode.

After a year of a ton of speculation and a few clues, The Simpsons finally revealed in its season premiere last night which character was dying. Fans reactions to the episode, titled “Clown In The Dumps,” have been mixed, probably because of the big buildup. “This is going to be a bigger deal than King Joffrey on Game Of Thrones – the Yellow Wedding!” executive producer Al Jean had quipped earlier this year. It’s probably safe to say the shocker last night didn’t come close to the Red Wedding on GOT, but if you don’t want to find out who got the animated ax, READ NO FURTHER.

It turns out that the title of the episode did provide a major clue, but it didn’t mean Krusty the Clown was dead, it meant he was sad, Jean explained in post-mortems on the episode. It was actually Krusty’s father, Rabbi Hyman Krustofsky, who faced his demise. The character, voiced by Emmy winner Jackie Mason, had been on the show since 1991.
