I’ve learned that Amazon Studios has given a green light to The Kicks, a single-camera kids comedy produced by James Frey’s Full Fathom Five. It is based on the best-selling series of books by Olympic gold medalist soccer star Alex Morgan, with David Babcock (ABC Family’s Twisted) serving as writer and showrunner. The Kicks tells an empowering story of twelve-year-old soccer player Devin who is on the verge of being named seventh-grade captain on her Connecticut school soccer team when her family moves to California and she has to start from scratch in one of the most competitive soccer states.

This marks Babcock’s return to comedy. He worked on sitcom Dharma & Greg and dramedy The Gilmore Girls before segueing to dramas, including Brothers & Sisters and Twisted. He is with Rothman Brecher and attorney Phil Klein. In addition to The Kicks, WME-repped Full Fathom Five has drama pilot Lumen awaiting official pilot green light at TNT.
