EXCLUSIVE: Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions has launched BH Tilt – a new label dedicated to generating movies from Blumhouse and other filmmakers for multi-platform release. The new label begins with The Creep Trilogy by The Duplass Brothers, which will be released by RADiUS-TWC; the films Mockingbird, Mercy, Not Safe for Work and Stretch, which Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release digitally in October, and The Town That Dreaded Sundown, which Orion is releasing in October.

blumBlum confirmed the expansion and said: “Our company is built on the idea of betting on yourself. As a result of our micro-budgets, we encourage our filmmakers to take risks and make the movies they have always dreamed of making. The purpose of BH Tilt is to be part of the continuing evolution of distribution, whether it be through changing marketing strategies, changing revenue sources or changing windows. We are excited to launch BH Tilt and can’t wait to share these films with genre fans through every means available.”

Blumhouse, which recently entered into a new 10-year first-look production agreement with Universal Pictures, has had a high ratio of micro-budget genre movies that were well suited for wide theatrical release, but there is an improving market for films that don’t warrant a wide release but can find an audience through such multi-platform strategies as day and date releasing. The label, he said, gives directors creative freedom to make the movies they want, how they want. Given their low-budgets, the films can be distributed both traditionally and in new ways. BH Tilt will focus on tailoring distribution strategies that maximize opportunities for Blumhouse films not being released wide in theaters.

Blumhouse’s next micro-budget wide releases include Ouija, which Universal released October 24, Amityville with TWC on January 2nd, 2015, The Boy Next Door with Universal on January 23rd, 2015, and the next chapters in the Insidious and Sinister franchises to be released by Focus Features on May 29th, 2015 and August 21st, 2015.
