Thirteen years after Barry Pepper’s standout performance in HBO’s baseball movie 61*, which earned him an Emmy nomination, the actor is back in the HBO family with a drama series project set up at sister network Cinemax. Pepper is attached to star in and executive produce the drama Trail Of Blood, from Endemol Studios and studio-based producer Christina Wayne.
Written by Ross Parker, Trail Of Blood centers on a frontier preacher — a role Pepper would play — whose only child, a teenage daughter, is taken by the Harpe brothers, the first documented serial killers in U.S. history. Pepper and Wayne are executive producing.
Endemol Studios, the scripted studio operation under Endemol North America, has Hell On Wheels on AMC and DirecTV’s upcoming Kingdom. Its development slate includes more than 30 projects, including a horror anthology series from Jason Blum and Tony Krantz it recently set up at NBC. The company has a pod deal with Wayne’s Assembly Entertainment and recently inked an overall deal with Kingdom creator/showrunner Byron Balasco.
Pepper won an Emmy for his starring role in The Kennedys miniseries and next will be seen in the feature Kill The Messenger.
