Zoe Saldana’s Cinestar Pictures has named veteran film and television producer Daniel Schnider to head development and production. He will shepherd Cinestar’s TV and film projects as part of the company’s first-look deal with South Shore Television and Pantelion Films, the U.S. joint ventures of Grupo Televisa and Lionsgate. Their first project is a one-hour drama based on Joy Castro’s novel Hell Or High Water, the story of an investigative journalist finding revenge and salvation in post-Katrina, New Orleans. “We are very happy Daniel has joined our Cinestar team as a new executive,” Zoe Saldana and her sisters, Cinestar co-owners and founders Mariel and Cisely Saldana, said in a statement.
Schnider most recently produced the digital series Backwash for Sony’s Crackle and worked with Crucial Films’ Dr. Dre on selling cable projects and the upcoming N.W.A. biopic Straight Out of Compton for Universal Pictures. Previously, Schnider headed development for New Line-based Sandbox and startup movie and digital studio Blowtorch Studios. Cinestar, repped by ICM Partners, recently produced the Zoe Saldana-starring miniseries Rosemary’s Baby for NBC, and the original AOL digital series My Hero slated for fall.
