Auf weidersehen, Michelle Williams, wilkommen Emma Stone. A spokesman for the Broadway revival of the Broadway revival of Cabaret confirms that the Amazing Spider-Man and Magic In The Moonlight star “is in negotiations to make her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in Cabaret.” The Roundabout Theatre Company production stars Alan Cumming as the M.C., reprising the role that won him a Tony Award in 1998, when Sally was played by the late Natasha Richardson (who also won a Tony for her performance).
Staged by Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall, the show has done solid business since opening in April, most recently reaching about 80% of its gross potential and filling about 90% of Studio 54’s 893 seats. Stone was rumored to have been the first choice for the role when scheduling scuttled the plan. Williams, who has been terrific as the so-so chanteuse, recently extended her stay through November 9, when, presumably, Stone will take over. The run is slated to end January 4, 2015. The negotiation with Stone was first reported in the New York Times.
