It may have been an end of summer night but everyone had some skin in the primetime game on Wednesday. CBS had a full slate on Wednesday with the second week of a 2-hour Extant (1.1/4) and an 1-hour Big Brother (2.3/8) at 8 PM. Easily top rated show of the night, BB was even with last week among adults 18-49. Going to double duty seems to be working out for the Hallie Berry sci-fi drama. The sometimes ratings uneven freshman Extant was up 10% from last week’s 9 PM – 11 PM show. The duo of BB and Extant pumped CBS up to win the night among the key demo with a 1.5/5 rating and a second place spot among total viewers with 6.0 million watching. NBC was No #1 among viewers with 6.49 million

Part of that was because America’s Got Talent (1.8/6) was top of the pile viewershipwise with an audience of 9.3 million. It was a ariana grande agt august 27semifinals results night on AGT, which meant that some people got to move on towards the finals and some said goodbye. With a roof blowing off guest appearance performance by former Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande of her ‘Break Free’ single, the 1-hour live show was pretty steady with last week. While down 5% in preliminary ratings from last week’s final numbers to hit a series low, AGT will likely see adjustments later on today. Having said that, the AGT dip dribbled over to lead-out Taxi Brooklyn (0.8/3) which was even with its August 20 episode and also tied for a low.

Maybe it was Jesse Tyler Ferguson from the recently once again Emmy winning Modern Family once again joining Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy as a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance (1.1/4) that saw the competition show surge up 22% from last week among the 18-49s. Maybe it was the show moving strutting towards it Season 11 finale next week with more eliminations – either way Fox had the right moves getting out of the sand trap of last week’s series low in preliminary ratings.

On ABC, the only original of the night was the Season 2 finale of Motive (0.9.3). The Canadian import was up 13% over last week’s show and up the same number its Season 1 ender last August 29. The CW’s freshman UK import Penn & Teller: Fool Us (0.5/2) was even with last week’s show.
