Greg Garcia is expanding Amigos de Garcia’s portfolio with a comedy project at ABC. The single-camera comedy, written by Blue Mountain State co-creator Eric Falconer, has received a script commitment with penalty from the network. Produced by CBS TV Studios and studio-based Amigos de Garcia, the untitled comedy, aka The Barrio, is loosely based on Falconer’s experience moving his family to East Los Angeles. It centers on a TV writer who, after losing his job, moves his family from Santa Monica to a predominantly Mexican neighborhood in East LA in order to save money. In doing so they experience culture shock but also discover a feeling of community in their new neighborhood that makes their family stronger. Falconer and Garcia executive produce.
Garcia has created/co-created four series, family comedies Raising Hope (Fox), The Millers (CBS) and Yes, Dear (CBS) as well as My Name Is Earl (NBC). This would mark his first series at ABC where CBS Studios has upcoming drama series Members Only. CAA-repped Garcia moved to expand his company into developing and producing projects from other writers last year when it brought its development executive, Alix Jaffe. UTA-repped Falconer has been working on a Blue Mountain State movie, which he founded via Kickstarter.
