Entertainment One has signed a multi-year first-look deal with Rumble Films, the company just launched by veteran indie producer David Lancaster, whose recent credits include the Sundance hit Whiplash and the upcoming Jake Gyllenhaal-starrer Nightcrawler. Under terms of the deal, eOne will have a first look at financing and distributing all Rumble feature films, and Lancaster will consult on eOne’s own productions under film production president Xavier Marchand and SVP Benedict Carver. Carver will oversee the relationship with Rumble from eOne’s LA office.
The first eOne pic Lancaster will jump into is the Gavin Hood-directed thriller Eye In the Sky, which stars Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul, Alan Rickman and Barkhad Abdi. The film, set in the shadowy world of drone warfare, starts shooting next month in South Africa, and Lancaster will work with original producers Colin Firth and Ged Doherty of Raindog Films.
Lancaster was co-president of Bold Films from 2006 until this year and oversaw production on all of the company’s films including the Ryan Gosling-starrer Drive . Bold also was behind summer series Black Box on ABC and Dominion on Syfy.
"I have worked closely with Xavier and the eOne distribution team on a number of films I have produced previously, and was extremely excited about the opportunity to leverage the tremendous footprint the company has built in their worldwide territories," said Lancaster. "With Benedict in LA, we intend to begin a robust push to bring high quality, filmmaker driven, independent films to the marketplace."
