Vin Diesel starrer The Last Witch Hunter has added Elijah Wood to its cast as filming ramps up to start this month. Pic tracks an immortal witch hunter who teams up with his natural enemy, a witch, to save NYC from a coven-conjured plague. The supernatural action film helmed by Breck Eisner also stars Rose Leslie and Michael Caine and is scripted by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Gods Of Egypt). Original pitch is by Cory Goodman, and the project’s full writing credits also include work by D.W. Harper and Melisa Wallack.
Wood’s got plenty of fantasy actioner cred from his long stint as Frodo Baggins in the Lord Of The Rings films. His recent credits include the darker fare of Eugenio Mira’s thriller Grand Piano and indie slasher Maniac. Wood next appears in 1950s-set Set Fire To The Stars as poet John Brinnin and currently stars in the fourth and final season of FX’s Wilfred, which concludes this month. Last Witch Hunter is produced by Mark Canton, Bernie Goldmann and Diesel. Samantha Vincent of One Race and Adam Goldworm are executive producing, with Lionsgate’s Erik Feig, Summit’s Geoff Shaevitz, and Lionsgate’s Matthew Janzen overseeing. Wood is repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Stone, Meyer, Genow, Smelkinson and Binder.
