Open Road Films had a critical hit on its hands when it released the Jon Favreau-directed Chef in May. Now, in an awards-season play, it will rerelease the pic nationally August 29 for a Labor Day weekend run that will shove its box office cume past $30M (it stands at $29.3M today). Eyeing a shot at a Golden Globes best comedy/musical nom, among others, Open Road will offer free admission to members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association as well as the Movie Academy, ACE, ADG, ASC, BAFTA, CAS, DGA, MPEG, MPSE, PGA, WGA and the SAG nominating committee.

Chef is currently on 100 screens, but that will grow to 600-800 for the rerelease.

Chef stars Favreau as an L.A.chef at a crossroads who launches a food truck in Miami and embarks on a new journey. Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt, Amy Sedaris, Robert Downey Jr and Emjay Anthony co-star. It premiered at SXSW in April and won the audience award at Tribeca.
