EXCLUSIVE: Comic book and graphic novel publisher BOOM! Studios is making a push in television with a first-look deal at 20th Century Fox TV for broadcast and cable projects. Under the pact, the studio's roster of writers and producers will have access to source material from the entire portfolio of BOOM! imprints: the core BOOM! brand, KaBOOM!, boutique imprint Archaia, and the new millennial-focused experimental brand BOOM! Box. BOOM! Founder and CEO Ross Richie and President of Development Stephen Christy will serve as executive producers on any projects developed with 20th TV, and the company plans to hire a development executive focused solely on television. The pact expands BOOM! Studios' relationship with 20th TV, where the company developed drama Unthinkable with Howard Gordon's Teakwood Lane and writer Ben Queen last season. The project, based on the comic book by Mark Sable and Julian Totino Tedesco, was set up at Fox with a put pilot commitment.
“BOOM! is one of the most creative and prolific comic book and graphic novel publishers around, with a fantastic library and an incredible pipeline of new, exciting properties," said 20th TV's President of Creative Affairs Jonnie Davis. "Ross and Stephen are talented producers who share our love of big, noisy concepts and breakout characters, so we think this deal has enormous potential.”

With last year's acquisition of indie publishing outfit Archaia, BOOM! is set to publish 29 new original series it owns and controls this year, adding to its library of more than 120 IP. Next year, the number will go up to 35 original series, making BOOM! the largest library of owned and controlled original comic book series outside of Marvel and DC Comics. The pact would allow 20th TV to become a bigger player in the comic book-based series business, dominated by DC/Warner Bros TV and Marvel/Disney-ABC.
