Director Peyton Reed has rounded out his Ant-Man cast as filming begins today in San Francisco. Returning to the Marvel fold alongside stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, and Corey Stoll is John Slattery, who played Tony Stark's father Howard Stark in Iron Man 2. Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, Gregg Turkington and rapper-actor T.I. have also been cast in the July 17, 2015 release.
Rudd stars as Scott Lang, a con man who grows into a hero by helping his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas) pull off a heist that will save the world. Lilly plays Hope Van Dyne, Pym's daughter. Marvel's Kevin Feige is producing and Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee are executive producers on what Disney/Marvel have set up as their next superhero franchise hot off the successful launch of the more obscure Guardians of the Galaxy property. In addition to SF, filming will also take place in Atlanta.
Reed took the helm only in June after the highly publicized exit of Edgar Wright, who'd been working on the project for Marvel since 2006. Last month at Comic-Con after Deadline broke the exits of cast members including Patrick Wilson, Reed and his stars presented a very early Ant-Man sequence featuring the voices of Rudd and Douglas.
