EXCLUSIVE: Universal and Bluegrass Films have optioned an untitled female-driven workplace comedy spec from English comedienne-turned-writer Laura Solon. It’s the first feature sale for Solon, who most recently wrote on TV Land’s Hot In Cleveland. The spec, formerly known as Work It, will be retitled and plot details are being kept under wraps. Bluegrass Films and Shine Pictures are producing with Bluegrass’ Beau Beauman overseeing for the company alongside Universal SVP of Production Kristin Lowe.

LA-based Solon got her start across the pond as a sketch comedy writer and performer and won the Perrier Award for her one-woman show Kopfraper’s Syndrome: One Man and His Incredible Mind at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. That landed her a deal developing TV and radio projects for BBC, which tapped her to perform on Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry & Paul, Have I Got News for You, and Fast and Loose. For the past three years she’s developed television projects for ABC. Last fall the network gave a script commitment to her untitled nanny project for Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and ABC Studios. Solon is repped by Gersh, Hugo Young at Independent in the UK, and Jackoway, Tyerman, Wertheimer, Austen, Mandelbaum & Morris.
