Oscar-nominated Robert Forster (Jackie Brown) has been cast in Fox’s new drama series Backstrom. Created by Bones creator/executive producer Hart Hanson based on the Swedish book series by Leif G. W. Persson, Backstrom centers on Everett Backstrom (Rainn Wilson), an overweight, offensive, irascible detective who’s engaged in a constant struggle with his self-destructive tendencies. Forster will appear in two episodes this season as Everett’s dad, Sheriff Blue Backstrom. Blue is a local legend who’s gained notoriety through his tough, smart, pitiless, yet likable disposition. But Everett is too pained by memories of Blue as the abusive father of his youth to see his dad’s “goodness” and “sincerity.” Forster recently appeared in ABC’s Last Man Standing. Other big screen credits include  Olympus Has Fallen, The Descendants, and Mulholland Drive.

Elizabeth Rodriguez has booked a recurring role on NBC’s supernatural crime drama Grimm, co-created by Angel co-creator David Greenwalt. She will play Special Agent Chavez, an FBI agent with a hidden agenda and a secret identity. Repped by Stone Manners Salners Agency and Opus Entertainment, Rodriguez can currently be seen as (mother of the year) Aleida Diaz on Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black. Grimm was renewed for a fourth season in March. TVLine scooped this first yesterday.
