Less than a year after Tim Pastore joined National Geographic Studios, the production arm of the National Geographic Society, the veteran producer is moving to the National Geographic Channel as President of Original Programming & Production. Pastore’s hire completes the overhaul at the top of the National Geographic Channel, which started in April when CEO David Lyle and president Howard Owens stepped down, and the network’s head of marketing, Courteney Monroe, was upppastorecopyed to CEO, with David Hill, Senior EVP of 21st Century Fox and a member of the National Geographic Channels Board of Directors, regaining oversight as Chairman of National Geographic Channels U.S. Pastore, who will oversee development, production and production management, fills the void left by the departure of Owens as the network’s top programming executive. Working closely with Pastore will be Heather Moran, EVP, Programming & Strategy, who will continue to manage the network’s production team, and Alan Eyres, SVP, Programming & Development, who will continue to spearhead the development team. Both of them will now report to Pastore. (Geoff Daniels remains EVP and General Manager for Nat Geo WILD, reporting to Monroe.)

Pastore will be transitioning from his current role as EVP of Production & Development at the National Geographic Studios into his new role at NGC during the next four weeks, assuming the position full time beginning August 18. Pastore will be based in NGC’s New York office in Soho while overseeing the teams in New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., as well as working very closely with Hamish Mykura, EVP and Head of International Content for National Geographic Channels International, and the NGCI team in London. “Tim’s taste and sensibility for the National Geographic brand coupled with his incredible success in the factual cable entertainment landscape makes him the perfect person to help us realize the full potential of this network,” said Monroe. “As the creator of hit series including our very own Life Below Zero, I am excited to partner with Tim to create smart, brand definitional, original, entertaining fare our viewers will love.”

At NG Studios, Pastore was responsible for the development and execution of the studio’s production slate, which included programming for NGC, Nat Geo WILD and PBS. Additionally, he had oversight of the hit NGC series Brain Games and developed and executive produced the upcoming series Live Free Or Die and the recently announced Mapology With Kal Penn. Prior to NG Studios, Pastore was VP of Factual Programming and Production at BBC Worldwide Prods., where among other things, he created NGC’s current hit series Life Below Zero. Pastore also served as executive producer in the development and production of Discovery Channel’s Gold Rush, Dual Survival and Flying Wild Alaska. He also produced multiple seasons of Deadliest Catch.
