Whatever happened to the Slaughterhouse-Five adaptation? That's what I want from del Toro more than anything.

PREVIOUSLY, 5:09 PM: Last summer’s sci-fi actioner grossed only $101M domestically but made $309M overseas, and now it’s officially a franchise. Guillermo del Toro is coming back to direct Legendary PicturesPacific Rim 2 and will write it with Zak Penn. Universal has dated the 3D pic for April 7, 2017. Del Toro, Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Mary Parent and Callum Greene are producing, with Jillian Share as exec producer. The original starred Charlie Hannum and Idris Elba as pilots of giant machines that battle massive sea creatures that threaten mankind. It was up for six VES Awards in February but was swept aside by eventual visual effects Oscar winner Gravity. The sequel’s only release-date competition thus far is Fox’s animated Ferdinand.
