Glee‘s Melissa Benoist has landed a role in Fox 2000’s The Longest Ride. Benoist, who plays Marley on Fox’s singing drama, will play Marcia, the well intentioned roommate of Sophie, in the Nicholas Sparks adaptation. Britt Robertson and Scott Eastwood lead the cast as a young couple whose romance parallels the the intertwined love story of a local elderly man and his lady love. Alan Alda and Jack Huston recently boarded the project under helmer George Tillman, Jr. Benoist, meanwhile, plays opposite Miles Teller in Sony Classics’ Sundance darling Whiplash and recently filmed Imagine opposite Al Pacino and Jennifer Garner. She’s repped by UTA, Authentic and Frankfurt Kurnit.
After segueing his Thor, Avengers, and Captain America: Winter Soldier character Jasper Sitwell to TV’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., actor Maximiliano Hernandez has been cast in border pic Sicario from director Denis Villeneuve. Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt, and Josh Brolin star in the drama about a female FBI agent assigned to work with two Delta Force operators to take down a Mexican cartel boss. Hernandez will play Silvio, a hard-drinking drug smuggling cop in Mexico. He stars on new TNT drama series The Last Ship and recently appeared in Amazon’s pilot Hand of God, directed by Marc Forster. Black Label Media and Thunder Road Pictures are producing Sicario, which Lionsgate is distributing worldwide. Hernandez is repped by Pakula/King & Associates.
Shane Black has been tapped to write a treatment for a new Predator project at Fox, which he’s also attached to direct. The Iron Man 3 helmer actually co-starred in the 1987 original alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, playing a member of Arnold’s team and the first to die at the hands of the Predator. Black’s Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker will script the pic which is intended to reboot the sci-fi franchise for Fox.
