Management 360 partner and board member Peter Kiernan has exited to join his clients Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin as a partner in their newly renamed production company Free Association. Kiernan co-managed Tatum and Carolin with 360’s William Choi for more than a decade, joining the firm at its inception in 2002. He will now oversee day to day operations of Free Association, helping to extend the company’s entrepreneur roots — remember, Tatum and Steven Soderbergh self-financed Magic Mike, which landed both their biggest paydays to date and spawned a sequel and an in-the-works Broadway production that will net them even more loot.
“We’re extraordinarily lucky to have the chance to partner with PK,” said Tatum and Carolin in the statement announcing the news. “He and Bill’s guidance, support, and taste have been integral to our journey over the past decade, and we couldn’t be more excited to watch Peter bring his invaluable skillset to producing.”
Tatum and Carolin have produced pics starting with 2012’s Magic Mike, which Carolin wrote and Channing starred in, and the Jump Street pics. Currently they have 22 Jump Street, the Tatum co-starrer which topped the box office in its debut two weeks ago and has passed $150 million worldwide already. Their slate includes an Evel Knieval biopic at Sony starring Tatum and written by Carolin; another Sony pic, Lodi, co-produced with Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, about a small-town Cadillac dealer and family man who goes undercover to take down a mob boss. At Warner Bros, Magic Mike 2 has a July 2015 release date, and the prod co is also adapting and producing the Jo Nesbo crime thriller The Son.
On the TV side, the company just signed a deal with MRC.
