higher-callEXCLUSIVE: Neophyte screenwriter John Marckesano has been tapped to adapt true story WWII tale A Higher Call for Oscar-winner Tom Stoppard (Empire of the Sun, Shakespeare In Love) and Solipsist Films. Adam Makos wrote the 2012 NY Times bestseller nonfiction tome A Higher Call: An Incredible True Story of Combat and Chivalry in the War-Torn Skies of World War II, about the unlikely December 1943 incident that occurred in the skies above Europe between American Lieutenant Charlie Brown and German ace fighter pilot Franz Stigler. As the highly unusual historical event goes, Stigler opted not to shoot down Brown’s crippled B-17 bomber and instead escorted Brown and his heavily wounded crew to safety. The two men reunited decades later.

Stoppard and Solipsist Films acquired the rights with producer Stephen L’Heureux. Marckesano, a recent USC grad and full time commercial airline pilot, was tapped to adapt Higher Call after developing another project, Black Flag, with Solipsist. L’Heuruex and Will Stoppard will produce. Marckesano is repped by Erik Hyman of Loeb & Loeb. Stoppard is repped by Paradigm and United Agents in the UK. Solipsist is repped by CAA.
