Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant and oh so funny. Bravo Colbert and T-Mobile! I would be shocked if T-Mobile wasn’t apprised of the gag before it was aired. I really didn’t have an opinion of T-Mobile before watching this but I have to say I think more favorably of them now for allowing their product to be used both as and in the butt of a joke. “What’s that constant ringing in my rear?” ABC’s Kimmel has been weaving advertising into some funny skits for some time. Colbert’s bit may have taken these humorous plugs to a darker place (where the sun don’t shine). I will certainly remember T-Mobile when my cell phone contract expires (with one of their competitors).
Yes, hilarious, but not apparently very informative…since you missed Colbert explaining that T-Mobile will pay your ETF to cancel your contract & switch carriers today…
100x more memorable than any carrier’s ad could ever be, and hilarious as well.
As a marketing exec at TMo (or their agency), I’m not sure how I would feel about the tone of the content, but as long as TMo agreed beforehand, then I would not have any qualms.
Alfred Hitchcock used to knock his sponsors and they loved him for it. The advantage here is that T-Mobile was already a joke.
