eOne Picks Up ‘The Silent Mountain’, ‘The Night Crew’
Entertainment One Films U.S. has taken North American rights to romantic drama The Silent Mountain and U.S. rights to action-thriller The Night Crew. Both films will be released by eOne via all home entertainment platforms. Directed by Ernst Gossner and written by Clemens Aufderklamm, The Silent Mountain stars William Moseley, Claudia Cardinale and Fritz Karl in the story of a young Austrian soldier in World War I who fights his way through the Alps to rescue his Italian girlfriend and escape the impending explosion that will rock the mountain. The Night Crew, directed by Christian Sesma and written by Paul Sloan and Sesma, stars Luke Goss, Danny Trejo, Bokeem Woodbine, Chasty Ballesteros and Jason Mewes. It revolves around a group of hard-up bounty hunters who must survive the night in a desert motel against a horde of savage cartel killers. Premiere Entertainment Group is handling worldwide sales of both films at Cannes.
Content Acquires Worldwide Sales Rights To Janis Joplin Docu
Content said Thursday that it will sell director Amy Berg’s Janis Joplin documentary Janis: Little Girl Blue, which Oscar winner Alex Gibney is producing. The film, which is in production, strips away the late singer’s rock ‘n’ roll persona to reveal the gentle, trusting, innocent but powerful woman behind the legend. Disarming Films, Jigsaw Productions and Thirteen Productions’ American Masters are co-producing the docu. Content will kick off sales at Cannes.
Double Dutch Takes A Stab At Rights To ‘The Scarehouse’
Double Dutch said Thursday that it has acquired international sales rights to writer-director Gavin Michael Booth’s horror feature The Scarehouse from D Films and A Named Viking Entertainment. Sara Booth and Kimberly Sue-Murray stars as former sorority girls who set up a Halloween fun house on Devil’s Night. But when the scaring commences, their motivations are revealed to be far more sinister. Double Dutch will sell the pic at the Marche du Film. Universal handling US digital sales, and D Films will release theatrically in Canada later this year.
BBC Three Slate Includes ‘Sexy Beasts’, ‘Nick Helm’s Heavy Entertainment’
BBC Three’s latest slate includes three new formats, more of The Revolution Will Be Televised and Backchat specials with Jack and Michael Whitehall. The new series are Sexy Beasts, a unique dating show that will explore whether true love can blossom based on character alone, by using high-end Hollywood prosthetics to completely disguise the identity of people who then go on dates with each other; Nick Helm’s Heavy Entertainment, a fast-paced variety show with stand-up, sketches, audience interaction, songs, poetry, jokes and more; and Murder In Successville, set in a surreal town brimming with celebrities such as Gordon Ramsay, Cheryl Cole, the Cowells and the Beckhams — and also has an unfortunately high incidence of celebrity homicide.
Miranda Richardson, Anna Chancellor Star In BBC One’s ‘Mapp And Lucia’
Two-time Oscar nominee Miranda Richardson and Anna Chancellor will play EF Benson’s notorious small-town social rivals Miss Elizabeth Mapp and Mrs Emmeline “Lucia” Lucas in Steve Pemberton’s adaptation of comic drama Mapp And Lucia. Directed by Diarmuid Lawrence, the 3×60 BBC One serial also stars Pemberton, Mark Gatiss, Felicity Montagu, Gemma Whelan, Paul Ritter and Katy Brand. Mapp And Lucia celebrates and lampoons the snobberies and pretensions of small-town life. It takes place over the summer of 1930, when Lucia decides to take a holiday in the charming historic town of Tilling.
