Amazon, NBCUniversal Ink U.K. Streaming Deal
Amazon and NBCUniversal have finalized a UK instant video subscription deal that will make hundreds of episodes of U.S. TV series available on Prime Instant Video. Amazon is bringing multiple seasons of such NBCUniversal shows as Suits, Grimm and Parks And Recreation to the UK’s largest movie and TV streaming subscription service. Also included in the deal are renewals of series such as Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, The Office (U.S.) and 30 Rock.
Fox International Channels Takes ‘Wayward Pines’ Rights
Fox International Channels, Fox Broadcasting Company and FX Productions have locked in an international partnership on M. Night Shyamalan’s new 10-episode event series Wayward Pines. FIC will control all rights outside of the U.S. to become exclusive first-window broadcaster in its 125-country universe as well as the exclusive international sales arm. Set to premiere on Fox globally during the 2014-15 broadcast season the suspense thriller stars Matt Dillon as Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke, who arrives in the bucolic Idaho town of Wayward Pines on a mission to find two missing federal agents.
Luisa Ranieri To Host Opening And Closing Events At Venice Fest
Actress Luisa Ranieri has been named as host of the opening and closing events of the 71st Venice Film Festival. She will be onstage of the Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido) for the inauguration ceremony on August 27 and September 6 the closing ceremony, during which the winners of the Lions and the fest’s other official awards will be announced.
Museum Planned At Charlie Chaplin’s Former Home In Switzerland
A $67.7M museum at the former Swiss home of Charlie Chaplin is set to open in 2016. Manoir de Ban in Corsier-sur-Vevey, the now-rundown 35-acre property on the banks of Lake Geneva where Chaplin lived for 25 years until his death in 1977, was bought by a Luxembourg investment firm in 2008. The house will be restored to the way it looked when the Little Tramp lived there. The new museum has the backing of Chaplin’s children Michael, Eugene and Victoria. “His soul, his spirit, is still here,” the museum’s director Yves Durand said, “so people will meet him, people will encounter him, people will hear his voice, will see his movies, will hear his music.”
Soccer Docu ‘Mata Mata’ Sells To Three Territories
The FIFA World Cup documentary Mata Mata has sold in multiple territories. Red Arrow International licensed the program to Belgian pubcaster VRT and Norwegian video platform VGTV, and Koch Media picked up DVD rights for Italy. F24 Film for Germany’s SWR/ARD Mata Mata follows Brazilian players Danilo, Thiago, Dante for almost three years in their fight to fulfill their soccer dreams.
