Following the decision to push limited drama series Astronaut Wives Club to midseason, ABC is reshuffling its summer schedule, which was to feature AWC in the Thursday 9 PM slot starting July 24. Rookie Blue, originally slated to premiere on July 17 and air in the Thursday 10 PM slot, paired with AWC, will now slide to 9 PM and start its season a month earlier, on June 19. (Despite the early start, ABC does not plan to expand the cop drama’s fifth season beyond the previously agreed upon 11 episodes of the 22 produced.) New alternative series The Quest will keep its Thursday 8 PM slot but its premiere is being pushed back by two weeks, from July 19 to July 31, with Wife Swap airing in the 8 PM hour on July 19 and 26. There is no replacement yet for Rookie Blue in the Thursday 10 PM slot in late summer.
Additionally, ABC has finally scheduled reality series Sing Your Face Off in what appears to be a burn-off run of two back-to-back episodes on Saturday night. Premiering May 31 and airing from 9-11 PM, Sing Your Face Off will be paired Season 2 of Bet On Your Baby at 8 PM for something we don’t see during the regular broadcast season these days, let alone the dog days of summer, an all-original Saturday night lineup. An adaptation of the Endemol format Your Face Sounds Familiar, Sing Your Face Off featuring celebrities who are transformed and trained to perform as a musical icon. The cast includes Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach, NBA’s Landry Fields, comedian Jon Lovitz, Disney Channel actress China Anne McClain and actress Lisa Rinna. Torchwood’s John Barrowman is the host. Debbie Gibson and Darrell Hammond are the primary judges. The project went through a lengthy development process before getting a six-episode order a year ago under previous ABC reality chief John Saade. It had been on the shelf ever since.
