Sunday’s episode of Good Wife featured the death of one of the original cast members, whose character Will Gardner was shot dead in the courtroom by a client. The storyline had been had been in the works since last spring when Charles approached series creators Michelle and Robert King, looking to leave the series at the end of last season when his contract was up. They posted a letter to fans after the episode aired saying they decided to kill off the character because “there was something in the passion that Will and Alicia shared that made distance a meager hurdle” and because “We’ve all experienced the sudden death of a loved one in our lives. It’s terrifying how a perfectly normal and sunny day can suddenly explode with tragedy. Television, in our opinion, doesn’t deal with this enough: the irredeemability of death.”
