EXCLUSIVE: XYZ Films‘ action pic Redeemer just got more international with the addition of actor Noah Segan (Looper, Brick), who’ll co-star opposite martial artist Marko Zaror (Expendables 2, Machete Kills) in the pic now filming in Chile. In his fourth team-up with director Ernesto Díaz Espinoza, Zaror stars as an ex-hitman who’s made a deal with God to hunt down the men he used to work for. Segan’s come aboard to play an unhinged American expat businessman-cum-kingpin with a thing for Chilean culture who zeroes in on Zaror when his money goes missing. The casting is unusual in that he’ll play his character in English within the otherwise Spanish-language pic – a development that arose when the filmmakers tailored the role for Segan, who is also joining the project as a producer alongside Zaror, Espinoza and Diego Moral Heimpell. Zaror’s roles in Espinoza’s Kiltro and Mirageman as well as 2010’s Undisputed III: Redemption helped put him on the map in the contemporary action game as one of a new generation of international action stars building global followings through genre films. He and Segan met last fall at Austin’s Fantastic Fest where Zaror, a martial artist trained in multiple disciplines, gave Segan tips for a festival boxing match while in town to promote his turn as Mel Gibson’s henchman in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills. Segan’s upcoming projects include SXSW pic Starry Eyes and Chuck Hank and the San Diego Twins, from the makers of Bellflower. He’s repped by Untitled, Resolution, and attorney Stephen Clark. XYZ Films, which has the buzzy Indonesian action sequel The Raid 2 in theaters this month, is exec producing and repping sales on Redeemer.
