ABC‘s Good Morning America attracted the largest audience among morning infotainment programs the week that included the first couple days of NBC‘s Olympics coverage. NBC began covering Games competition on Thursday of last week and broadcast the Opening Ceremony in primetime on Friday. NBC noted Today won those mornings last week — by an average of 190,000 viewers and 326,000 news-demo viewers.
ABC also noted that on Tuesday of this week, GMA topped Today, for the first time ever during official Olympics Games.
The week of February 3, GMA clocked the largest overall audience — 5.976 million viewers, continuing its 20-week season-to-date streak in first place among viewers of all ages. GMA beat Today (5.818 million) by 158,000 viewers. In the news demo, Today beat GMA by 18,000 viewers — 2.388 million and 2.370 million, respectively. NBC noted Today won Thursday and Friday morning last week — by an average of 190,000 viewers and 326,000 news-demo viewers. Today, however, pointed out that it clocked its best total viewer and news demo numbers that week since Week 2 of the London Summer Games.
GMA has averaged the largest crowds in its genre for more than 18 months — a 77-week streak that represents its longest stretch at No. 1 in more than 22 years.
