UPDATE, 11:24 AM: Looks like Seth Meyers is virtually right where Jimmy Fallon was on Late Night. Fast nationals have last night’s second show of Late Night With Seth Meyers getting a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49. While a 21% drop from his debut the night before, Meyers is basically on par with the 1.0 result among the key demo that Fallon pulled in for his second night hosting Late Night on March 3, 2009. However when it comes to total viewers Meyers is just a bit ahead of Fallon with 2.722 million viewers to his predecessor’s audience of 2.507 million on the comparable night 5 years ago. As for Fallon himself, the second show of his second week hosting The Tonight Show garnered a 1.9 rating among the 18-49s and 5.636 million viewers. A 9% dip from February 24’s show and down 17% ratings-wise from Fallon’s Olympics fueled second show of February 18, last night’s Tonight Show still topped the 1.46 rating and 3.469 million viewers of the second show of the second week of Conan O’Brien hosting the show back on June 9, 2009. Last night’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon also beat the 1.10 rating among the key demo and the 4.218 million viewers that Jay Leno’s March 9, 2010 show got – that was the second show of the second week of Leno’s return to hosting The Tonight Show.
PREVIOUS, 7:21 AM: The highlight of the second show of Late Night With Seth Meyers had to be the career retrospective performance from Kanye West last night. And the hip hop superstar’s mega-mix medley of his greatest hits was a hit with late night viewers. The second show of the former SNL Weekend Update anchor’s new gig drew a 2.2/8 in metered-market results
While down 15% from the 2.6/9 Meyers got in MM results for his debut show on February 24, last night’s results are up 10% from the second night of Jimmy Fallon hosting Late Night back on March 3, 2009. That 12:30 show had a 2.0/7 in metered-market results. Fallon’s second Late Night went on to get a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 with 2.507 million viewers overall. Last night’s Late Night was the best Tuesday MM result the show has had since the heavy holiday 2.4/7 rating of December 23, 2008 and a rise of 38% over the show’s season average this year of 1.6.
Earlier, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon had a good Tuesday too. The second show of the second week of the other former SNLer’s new gig got a 4.0/10 in metered-market ratings. Without the Olympics pushing its audience to Fallon, he was down 24% from the stellar 5.3/15 result of his February 18 show at midnight. However, similar to the February 24 result, last night’s Tonight Show was a big 37% improvement from the 2.9/7 MM rating that Conan O’Brien received for his second show of his second week fronting the franchise. Slipping 6% from the MM results of the night before, that June 9, 2009 broadcast ultimately had a 1.46 rating in the key 18-49 demo and 3.469 million viewers – a drop of 6% demo ratings-wise and 15% in total audience from his June 8, 2009 show.
Last night’s Fallon, which had its own highlight with a lip sync contest between the host and guest Paul Rudd, was also up 24% from Jay Leno’s second show of his second week back hosting The Tonight Show in 2010. Leno’s March 9, 2010 show had a 3.2/8 MM rating, a dip of 8% from the 3.5/9 of his March 8, 2010 broadcast. The March 9, 2010 Tonight Show garnered a 1.10 rating in the key demo with 4.218 million viewers. That was just over a 1% mini-dip in the ratings and a 7% drop in total audience from the night before. On CBS last night, The Late Show With David Letterman got a 2.3/6 MM rating while ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live had a 1.7/4.
