David Henrie has been cast in the indie period drama Walt Before Mickey, based on the book by Timothy S. Susanin about the early years of Walt Disney. Henrie, who starred opposite Selena Gomez on Disney Channel’s long-running Wizards Of Waverly Place, will play Rudy Ising, who applies for a job at as a cartoonist with Walt’s fledgling studio in Kansas City and becomes one of the animator’s small group of trusted associates. American Pie‘s Thomas Ian Nicholas is already aboard as Walt Disney and Jon Heder is playing Roy Disney in the pic, which is filming now in Florida. Jodie Sweetin also is in the cast. Ari Taub is directing the movie from Conglomerate Media, Bon Aire Productions & Jeff Rice Films. Arthur L. Bernstein and Armando Gutierrez are producing. Henrie, who recurs on How I Met Your Mother, has another period pic, the Kevin James-Emily Watson-Tom Wilkinson drama Little Boy, in the can. He is repped by ICM Partners and Untitled Entertainment.
Aml Ameen, who just played the young Forest Whitaker in Lee Daniels’ The Butler, has been cast in Lila And Eve. Jennifer Lopez also stars in the pic, a Lifetime Films revenge drama that begins shooting next month in Atlanta. Charles Stone III is directing and Sara Risher and Darrin Reed are producing. Lila And Eve follows a grief-stricken mother (Davis), who in the aftermath of the murder of her son in a drive-by shooting, attends a support group where she meets Eve (Lopez), who has lost her daughter. The two women soon embark on a killing spree of their own as they work to the top of the chain of drug dealers to avenge the son’s murder. Amen will play Lila’s older son Stephon. Ameen, next up in Fox’s The Maze Runner, is repped by Paradigm, Sanders Armstrong Caserta, and the UK’s Independent Talent.
