Cinema Guild acquired U.S. rights to Stray Dogs, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2013 Venice Film Festival and official selection at both New York and Toronto. Directed by Tsai Ming Liang Stray Dogs follows a poor father and his two children as they wander modern-day Taipai. By day, the father makes what little money he can as a human billboard for luxury apartments, while his young son and daughter roam supermarkets surviving off free food samples. They take shelter in an abandoned building, with no water, light or electricity. Then one stormy night, the father decides to take his children on a sailing trip. The rights deal was negotiated by Cinema Guild’s Ryan Krivoshey with Eric Schnedecker of Urban Distribution International. Stray Dogs will open theatrically in 2014, followed by non-theatrical, home video and digital releases.
Cinema Guild’s upcoming releases include Lav Diaz’ Norte, The End Of History, Stephanie Spray and Pacho Velez’ Manakamana, Corneliu Porumboiu’s When Evening Falls On Bucharest Or Metabolism and Joaquim Pinto’s What Now? Remind Me.
