walking dead season 4 winter finale 2Two main characters were killed off and the prison refuge was set ablaze last night on the Season 4 winter finale of AMC‘s The Walking Dead last night. The ratings powerhouse zombie apocalypse drama also saw 12.1 million total viewers watch its 9 PM broadcast and 7.7 million in the 18-49 demo tune in on Sunday. That’s a midseason finale record for the series. It’s also a solid boost from the 10.5 million total viewers and the 6.86 million 18-49 viewers who tuned in to last year’s midseason closer on December 2, 2012. Overall, The Walking Dead  was up 29% in the first half of its fourth season over the first half of Season 3. The series returns for the last part of its fourth season on February 9, 2014.

The show’s Season 4 premiere at 9 PM on October 13 this year hit a series and cable viewership records of 16.1 million total watching and 10.4 million among adults 18-49.  Throughout the season, the Dead has even bested NBC’s NFL Sunday Night Football on a couple of times among the key demo. Best its Season 4 debut the previous series high for the series was the March 31st Season 3 finale episode. That Dead was  watched by 12.4 million viewers and 8.1 million among the key demo. In the last two seasons, the show that has also constantly beat big Big 4 network shows like Modern FamilyThe Big Bang Theory and NCIS among adults 18-49.
