The ratings are alive with The Sound Of Music this holiday season. A couple hours after we learned the halo effect from the success of NBC’s The Sound Of Music live staging had spread to ABC’s bajillionth rerun of the 1965 movie, which clocked its biggest overall audience in six years and its best demo stat in three years (6.5 million viewers, 1.3 rating), NBC announced that the audience for its December 5 live broadcast had climbed to nearly 22 million, and a 5.6 demo rating.
The night of Carrie Underwood‘s The Sound Of Music remains NBC’s most watched non-sports Thursday night since the Frasier finale (22.597 million viewers) on May 13, 2004.
A total of 38.696 million viewers watched at least a portion of the media-maligned Underwood starring vehicle. Including L+3 results for the December 14 encore, a total of 44.183 million viewers have watched at least a portion of NBC’s telecasts of The Sound Of Music Live!
