StudioCanal Acquires Golden Bear Winner ‘Child’s Pose’ For UK
StudioCanal has picked up Berlin Golden Bear winner Child’s Pose for UK distribution. Beta Cinema is selling the film, which has its UK debut at the London Film Festival this month. StudioCanal will open it on November 1. Child’s Pose, directed by Călin Peter Netzer, has sold in most major territories including to Zeitgeist in the U.S. The family drama is Romania’s entry for the Foreign Language Oscar.

David Frost’s Final Interview Airing Friday In The UK

‘s final interview will air on Al Jazeera English on Friday. Frost died last month at 74. His sit-down with actor Gael Garcia Bernal was taped in Mexico City in July. Producer Richard Brock says the interview is “as fine an example of Sir David’s interviewing style as you could find.” It airs at 9 PM in the UK and will be available online thereafter at AlJazeera.com and on the channel’s mobile apps. ‘The Fifth Wheel’ To Open Rome Film Festival
Giovanni Veronesi’s The Fifth Wheel has been selected as the opening film of the Rome Film Festival. The gala out-of-competition screening takes place on November 8. Veronesi’s comedy stars Elio Germano as Ernesto, a mover who for 40 years has travelled up and down Italy in his moving van. Through his eyes, the film tells the story of Italy from the 1970s to the present day. Also starring are Alessandra Mastronardi, Ricky Memphis, Sergio Rubini, Virginia Raffaele, and Alessandro Haber. Produced by Warner Bros Entertainment Italia and Fandango in association with Ogi Film, it will be released in Italy by Warner on November 17. International sales are handled by Fandango.

Sky Atlantic Set October 16 Premiere For Drama ‘The Tunnel’
The UK’s Sky Atlantic HD has set an October 16 debut for The Tunnel. The series is a Franco/British co-production between Sky Atlantic HD and Canal Plus from Kudos Film and TV and Shine France Films in association with Filmlance. It’s based on the Scandinavian series The Bridge and follows detectives from Britain and France as they hunt down a serial killer. Stephen Dillane and Clémence Poésy star. FX’s U.S. version stars Demian Béchir and Diane Kruger.

Channel 5 Picks Up Canadian Drama ‘Played’
The UK’s Channel 5 has acquired Canadian series Played, which is making its debut at Mipcom. The 13-episode drama is produced by The Kennedys producer Muse Entertainment and Back Alley Film Production (Bomb Girls) and was originally commissioned by the CTV network in Canada. Vincent Walsh, Chandra West and Lisa Marcos star as a squad of elite undercover cops who pose as drug dealers, paid assassins, gun runners and gangsters to infiltrate criminal worlds and collect evidence. It debuts this month in Canada and Muse Distribution International is handling sales.

UKTV’s Watch Acquires Alfonso Cuaron Drama ‘Believe’
UKTV’s flagship channel, Watch, has acquired rights to Believe, the Warner Bros Television and Bad Robot Productions high-concept drama that was co-created by Alfonso Cuaron. Watch will air the show starting in early 2014. The 13-episode series is about a girl with supernatural powers is placed under the protection of an escaped death row inmate who must shield her from the mysterious forces out to hunt her down. Johnny Sequoyah and Jake McLaughlin star. Cuaron is executive producer alongside J.J. Abrams. Believe will air on NBC in the States.

Pac-12 Networks Fox Ink Distribution Deal Outside Of U.S.
Pac-12 Networks has reached an exclusive multi-year agreement with Fox International Sports Channels to distribute its programming outside of the United States. The deal calls for FIC Sports to distribute more than 750 hours of Pac-12 events across 20 sports, including football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, baseball, softball, golf, cross country, track and field and swimming and diving.
