Airing against the series finale of AMC’s Breaking Bad, which won the best series Emmy last week, the Season 3 premiere of Showtime‘s Homeland, which held the same trophy last year, did solid business with 1.9 million viewers. That was up 9% from last fall’s Season 2 opener for the series’ most watched premiere yet. It was shy of Homeland‘s series high, posted by Episode 11 last season, which drew 2.3 million viewers. In a sign of the Breaking Bad finale’s impact, while the live Homeland season premiere was up 9% from last year, the cume for the night, 2.07 million, shot up by 26%.
Following Homeland, the debut of Showtime’s new drama series Masters Of Sex drew 1 million viewers at 10 PM (1.4 million for the night). It tied the series premiere of Homeland as the second-biggest debut for a Showtime series behind this summer’s Ray Donovan (1.35 million), which had a larger lead-in (2.5 million, Dexter).
