Highlighting the strength of commercial homegrown fare, four Argentinian films are enjoying an especially healthy run at the local box office these days. Each has studio distribution, opened No. 1 at their respective releases and each is currently nestled amongst big-ticket Hollywood fare in the top 20 pics of the year. The latest to be released is Fox‘s Septimo. It opened this month and with about $7M so far, is the 2nd biggest Fox title of the year in Argentina behind The Croods. The three other local hits of 2013 are Universal Pictures International‘s 3D animated Foosball; Disney comedy Corazón De León; and Disney crime thriller Tesis Sobre Un Homicidio. That film stars Ricardo Darin, who also leads Septimo. He plays a father searching for his children after they disappear from their apartment building. It opens in Spain next month and I hear it could get a small U.S. release next year. Here’s a subtitled trailer:
