BREAKING: 20th Century Fox and director Ridley Scott have set four more stars for Exodus, the Biblical epic that already has Christian Bale set to star as Moses and Joel Edgerton as the Egyptian pharoah Ramses II. Ben Kingsley is in talks to play a Hebrew scholar, John Turturro is set to play Seti, father of the Pharoah Ramses, Sigourney Weaver is set to play Ramses’ mother Tuya, and Emmy-winning Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul is negotiating to play Joshua, the Hebrew slave who leads the people into the promised land after Moses.

The script is by Steve Zaillian, and Adam Cooper and Bill Collage were the first writers who sold the pitch to Chernin Entertainment, which is producing along with Scott Free. CAA and Independent Talent rep Kingsley, ICM Partners reps Turturro, UTA reps Weaver and UTA and Leverage rep Paul.

Yo, let my people go, bitch!
Love this! But it is great news for Aaron Paul.
Thanks PopperFrip – that comment just frazzled the part of my brain that triggers laughter – and I needed that. Cracks me up every time I read it. All we need now is: All right you damn red waters – part damn it !!!
I will pay $50 to see the movie if he says that.
That was perfect.
That must be the strangest cast for an epic film ever! Not that I mind seeing Aaron Paul scantily clad in an epic!
When I think of egyptians there is no doubt joel edgerton, john turturro and sigourney weaver are the first people that come to mind. Great casting!
This rivals the casting of a Swedish-descent actor as the Prince of Persia a few years ago.
Bam!
Yeah, this is as great as Elizabeth Taylor playing Cleopatra. Good to see that some things never change even after 50 years.
Make it 3D!!!
So Hollywood were going to keep up with this myth of “white” Egyptians?? Any high school student in AP history can clearly tell you Moses was a man of color along with the Pharoah. Yes Egypt is still in AFRICA! Damn Ridley, at least ACT you’ve picked up a history book. Lets just cast Angelina Jolie as Cleopatra… oh yeah, they’re already do that. smh
Cleo was Greek.
But point taken about the absurdity of this lily white cast. The truly ancient Egyptians (not the ruling family of Cleopatra’s time) were African. At the very least, they should look Arabic-ish.
Cleo was not Greek. Of course a white historian would say that, but why not talk to the Egyptian scholars from the actual region. And Lily of the Nile, you make a good point but even in the time of Ramses the Egyptians were darker than the Arabs.
I cannot believe they are making EXODUS with an all white cast as the Egyptian royals. There are still statues that show what Ramses looked like! There is no way Joel Edgerton, given he is a talented actor, looks even remotely like him. Of all people, you would like RS would cast this thing correctly. Only in a fantasy would the mother or Ramses look like SW! This is so frustrating.
Let a Chinese director cast a Chinese man to play an English king and lets see how far that movie goes. This is just ridiculous.
moses was jew . not of color
really? you have a picture of him?
Moses was Hebrew not Jewish, big misconception.
Let’s not get too adamant about the Egyptians being African. If you will take a look at their own representations of themselves, whether the stylized artwork of the Old and Middle Kingdoms or the more realistic approaches of the Amarna Period (think of the famed bust of Nefertiti; as a matter of fact, there is a startling resemblance between Nefertiti and Angeline Jolie), you will see that it is perfectly justifiable to cast Caucasian actors in ancient Egyptian roles.
Does anyone else find it wildly ironic that “Moses” is going to be played by “Christian” Bale.
Ben Kingsley should play the Indian ambassador to Egypt (just kidding).
I can’t wait to see what Ridley does with this. Personally, I loved KINGDOM OF HEAVEN even if Edward Norton, behind an iron mask, acted circles around the Elf guy from LOTR. If they would have cast a stronger lead, ie Heath Ledger who Ridley wanted, it could have been a classic.
I was thinking there allready making a moses movie starting Russell crow as Moses any one could help out on this
I think he is playing Noah.
It’s a good thing there aren’t any talented Arab or otherwise brown-skinned actors in the world. Thank God Ben Kingsley’s still around to pick up the slack!
As much as I like joel edgerton but in wot universe does he look egyption.
Besides Ben Kingsley , this casting proves again how unbelievably racist Hollyweird is . Shame on these people trying to white wash this story .
Great cast, but I wish Ridley would concentrate on the sequel to Prometheus. Hopefully, after this.
I think Idris Elba would be a much better choice to play Moses.
Growly Christian Bale should have been cast as Rameses, the guy has little charisma, who would follow him to the ‘promised land’?
And yes Cleopatra was Greek, not African.
Cleopatra’s was Egyptian and Greek, so a mixed woman she would have been. Her mother was Egyptian so yes she was African as well.
Aaron Paul as Joshua? Really?
Yo, Israelites! This way!
Who read the headline and thought Exodus was the sequel to Prometheus? :P
And as Aaron in what is essentially a remake of “The Ten Coommandments,” Sylvester Stallone! Of course, the exodus itself, requiring hundreds (thousands?) of extras will be all CGI a la “Gladiator.”
