EXCLUSIVE: In a spirited bidding, The Longest Date, a single-camera comedy from Sex And The City alumna Cindy Chupack and New Girl executive producer Jake Kasdan, has landed at Fox with a pilot production commitment. The project is based on Chupack’s upcoming comedic marriage memoir The Longest Date: Life As A Wife, set to be released in January 2014 by Viking Press. It examines the comedy and cringe-worthy aspects of matrimony. Chupack will write the script and executive produce. Kasdan is set to direct the potential pilot and is executive producing with his producing partner Melvin Mar. 20th Century Fox TV, where Kasdan is under an overall deal, is producing. The studio had been pursuing Chupack for development for several years. She worked at the studio during the 2011-2012 season when she was co-executive producer of 20th TV’s hit comedy Modern Family, sharing in its best series Emmy win. Chupack has worked as a senior writer-producer on three comedies that have won best series Emmys: Sex And The City, on which she worked for most of its run, Everybody Loves Raymond and Modern Family.
Kasdan recently produced and directed the pilots of New Girl and Ben And Kate for Fox and 20th TV. He previously helmed the pilots for Judd Apatow’s Freaks And Geeks and Undeclared. Chupack, Kasdan and Mar are repped by WME. Chupack is also repped by Brad Small, and Kasdan by John Sloss.
