Officer Downe movie SlipknotSlipknot metal musician Shawn “Clown” Crahan is set to make his directing debut with Officer Downe, adapted from the graphic novel by comics vet Joe Casey (X-Men, Gødland) and Chris Burnham. Casey wrote the script based on the Man of Action/Image Comics-released one-shot, about an LA supercop routinely killed in the line of fire who’s resurrected and sent back out into the fray time after time. The project has producer Skip Williamson (Underworld, Crank) and director Mark Neveldine (Crank, Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance) onboard to produce alongside Casey and Man of Action, with Slipknot manager Cory Brennan exec producing. The team is eyeing franchise potential with Officer Downe, which has a sizable fanbase in Crahan’s Slipknot fame to propel online buzz. (A video is now up with Crahan introducing the project. See below.)

Crahan previously directed many of Slipknot’s music videos, which have cumulatively notched 100M views for the heavy metal outfit. The band boasts 15M Facebook followers and headlined their last tour in 2009. Casey co-founded Man of Action Studios, which launched a hit franchise in Ben 10 and is developing many in-house comics titles into multiplatform properties including The Great Unknown and Disco Destroyer. Crahan is repped by CAA. The Officer Downe film project is repped by UTA. Casey and Man of Action are repped by Scott Agostoni.
