UPDATE: Aida Turturro, who played James Gandolfini’s sister on The Sopranos, also has issued a statement. “I’ve not only lost a great friend, but a true brother, on screen and off,” she said. “James was the most generous actor to work with, but more so, a man with a heart of gold. I love him and my heart goes out to his family.”
PREVIOUS: They were one of the most iconic on-screen couples in the history of television. Today, Edie Falco mourns the death of her Sopranos husband James Gandolfini.
I am shocked and devastated by Jim’s passing. He was a man of tremendous depth and sensitivity, with a kindness and generosity beyond words. I consider myself very lucky to have spent 10 years as his close colleague. My heart goes out to his family. As those of us in his pretend one hold on to the memories of our intense and beautiful time together. The love between Tony and Carmela was one of the greatest I’ve ever known.

Sad. The scene where Carmela loses it on Tony after the Russian wench calls the Soprano home, is arguably the best acting ever.
It’s a very sad day! I’m sick as a parrot!
Can’t believe James is gone!
RIP.
I am sick to my stomach also Shay.
R.I.P. to a gentle man James Gandolphini who made the realism of Tony Soprano. To his family, friends, and his many fans who are mourning the loss of The Man..James Gandoliphini.
I loved the sopranos I have printed shirts of the sopranos I just loved. Tony soprano and always will my condolences to all who loved him
I lost my husband last year. Him & I loved the Soprano’s show and everyone in it. I feel like I lost a family member.
This was one of the few actors with whom I could remotely identify. A guy who stumbled into it by rejecting all the shitty things a man might do for a living and never got comfortable with “success.” Here’s a song for him that he might have liked: http://biffthuringer.bandcamp.com/track/peace-of-mind
