StudioCanal Seeks Original ‘Wicker Man’ Materials For 40th Anni Reissue
UK distributor StudioCanal has launched a worldwide appeal to locate original film materials relating to the 1973 horror classic The Wicker Man. This year is the Robin Hardy-directed film’s 40th anniversary, and StudioCanal is aiming to release the most complete version of the film possible. The Christopher Lee starrer originally was released with minimal promotion as the second feature of a double bill with Don’t Look Now. The version shown was significantly shorter than Hardy’s original. The negatives then disappeared from storage at Shepperton Studios and allegedly were used as landfill in the construction of the nearby M4 highway, and are considered lost forever. The company is appealing to film collectors, historians, programmers and fans to support the campaign and come forward with any information relating to the potential whereabouts of original materials.

Report: Chinese Authorties Probing Zhang Over Multiple Children
Veteran Chinese director Zhang Yimou reportedly is being investigated for a potential violation of China’s family-planning rules. Reuters reported that officials are examining Internet discussions that say Zhang has fathered as many as seven children with four women. If he is found to have violated the laws, he could be fined nearly $27M, the People’s Daily said, according to Reuters. An official in a propaganda office attached to the family planning committee of Jiangsu Province confirmed the substance of the People’s Daily report to Reuters. Urban families generally are restricted to one child, but rural families sometimes are allowed more than that. Zhang, a two-time BAFTA winner whose films have appeared in Cannes, most recently directed China’s foreign-language Oscar entry The Flowers Of War starring Christian Bale. His other movies include Hero, To Live, Raise The Red Lantern and Red Sorghum. He was also the director of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony.
