David Cronenberg’s ‘Maps To The Stars’ Locates More Cast
David Cronenberg’s upcoming Maps To The Stars has added Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams and The Killing‘s Evan Bird. They are joining Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon in the ghost story that’s said to be a scathing attack on celebrity-obsessed LA. Bird is playing a troubled child star with Williams as his manipulative mother and Wasikowska as his disfigured, schizophrenic, fame-obsessed sister. Bruce Wagner penned the script. Sales kick off in Cannes via eOne Films International with production to start in July. EOne and Prospero Pictures are co-financing and Prospero’s Martin Katz is producing with SBS Productions’ Saïd Ben Saïd.
Football Great Lionel Messi Gets Biopic Treatment
L.A.-based Epic Pictures Group has acquired all rights to biography Messi: The Inside Story Of The Boy Who Became A Legend. Epic is financing and producing the feature about Argentinian soccer player Lionel Messi and his journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the greatest soccer players in the history of the game. Messi plays for Barcelona and is the captain of the Argentinian national club and was the 2009 and 2010 FIFA Player of the Year. Producers are currently out to writers and directors, with a projected release date to coincide with next year’s World Cup that’s happening in Brazil. The book was penned by European sports journalist Luca Caioli.
Ex-Icon Exec Buckner To Head Real Fear Films
Red Bull Media House’s Terra Mater Factual Studios has launched a feature film division to be called Real Fear Films. Former Icon International exec Anthony Buckner will handle the development of the film slate alongside Terra Mater’s Joanne Reay. Plans are to produce up to five films over three years. Terra Mater is the producing arm of Red Bull Media which focuses on wildlife, science and history series.
‘Dancing In Jaffa’ Heads To France
France’s Pretty Pictures has acquired Tribeca title Dancing In Jaffa from K5 International. Writer/director/producer Hilla Medallia’s documentary debuted in the Viewpoints section of Tribeca last month. It follows international ballroom dancing champion Pierre Dulaine as he holds classes in three Jaffa-based schools where Palestinian and Israeli children are trained for a citywide competition. Among the exec producers are Morgan Spurlock, La Toya Jackson and Nigel Lythgoe. The deal was brokered by Pretty Pictures’ James Velaise and K5’s Roldolphe Sanzé.
