Childrens Hospital‘s Rob Huebel is set to star opposite Patrick Warburton in CBS/Sony TV’s comedy pilot Jacked Up. Written by Greg Malins and directed by Fred Savage, it centers on Jack (Warburton), a beloved, recently retired baseball player who sets out to find a new purpose in life…starting with finding a wife with the help of his energetic and lovable best friend Barry (Huebel), the divorced owner of the local sports bar. This marks the second pilot for Huebel, repped by UTA, Principato-Young and Karl Austen. He also has a guest star/potential recurring role in ABC’s comedy Bad Management. On the feature side, he starred in Hell Baby, which premiered at Sundance and was sold to Millennium Entertainment.
Stand-up comedian Griffin Newman is set as a lead opposite another comedian, John Mulaney, in Mulaney’s untitled multi-camera NBC comedy pilot, from Lorne Michaels, 3 Arts and Universal TV. Written/exec produced by Mulaney and exec produced by 30 Rock‘s Robert Carlock, the project is a young ensemble loosely based on Mulaney’s life. It centers on John (Mulaney), whose naïve, and often pointless, desire to “be a good person” challenges his friendship with his roommates Jane and Seymour (Newman), a weird genius in the body of a dustbowl child. Newman, repped by ICM Partners and One Entertainment, recurred on Political Animals.
The Office‘s Oscar Nuñez, repped by Stone Manners Salners and Omnipop Talent Group, is staying at NBC with a role in the network’s comedy pilot Holding Patterns. He plays Mickey, an urbane NY lit agent representing Chad Kirk (Nelson Franklin), a womanizing book author and one of a group of friends whose lives completely change after they survive a plane crash.
UK actress Melanie Liburd, repped by Talent Works, Think Tank Management and UK’s Identity Agency Group, has been cast as a guest star/recurring in the CW’s pilot The Selection, playing Fiona Castley, whose family is overjoyed but she is secretly hesitant about being picked for The Selection.
