Disney's Animated Short 'Paperman': Video

Disney Animation’s black-and-white, dialogue-free toon debuted in theaters last November in front of Wreck-It Ralph. The studio has posted online its Annie- and Oscar-nominated animated short directed by John Kahrs ahead of Saturday’s Annie Awards. Paperman follows the romantic paper trail from an office worker to the woman he encountered on a transit platform earlier in the day. Enjoy:

  1. Wow, that was amazing! It’s pretty neat that this short film was so emotionally moving without utilizing dialogue. Plus, the story confirms the fact that their is in fact a HIGHER POWER THAT HELPS THOSE THAT HELP THEMSELVES.

    1. You do know this was a cartoon, right?

That’s like saying the Flintstones confirms the coexistence of humans and dinosaurs.

    1. Depends want the animators want you to feel. This isn’t Avery or Jones but it IS one of the sweetest, most romantic things I saw in a theater last year, maybe longer. Different strokes.

Surprising thing to me was my 7 year old loved it better than WRECK IT RALPH which it played in front of. Go figure.

  2. what are their names? my friend and I are discussing this brilliant short and won’t be content until we discover satisfying names for the characters! its eating us alive. someone help

  3. The first three-quarters of “Paperman” reminds me strikingly of the recent video for Bob Dylan’s “Duquesne Whistle” — a young man romantically stalking a young woman whose path he crosses in the city — but of course the Disney version doesn’t end with the man imprisoned and tortured like the Dylan one.

  4. I agree, it’s a sweet, cute short that looks great. I just wish the story lived up to the quality of the animation.

  5. Perhaps Disney should stick to short films; they seem to fare better than their longform features.
