Australian Academy: 'Silver Linings Playbook,' 'Lincoln' And 'Zero Dark Thirty' Top Nominations List

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts announced nominees in five AACTA International Award categories, with The Weinstein Company’s Silver Linings Playbook leading the way with mentions in all five races. Winners will be announced in Los Angeles later this month: The nominees:

      What’s the point of this award? It highlights the American hegemony, if anything. And, super conservative – what, no Django? Look, the nominees are not going out there for this, so the academy may just as well recognize non-American product.

  1. The ironic thing is at the time of writing, zero dark thirty, lincoln and silver linings playbook aren’t even out in Australia!

  2. Thanks for the coverage of the AACTA International Awards. The jury for these Awards is made up of eminent Australian screen professionals working in Australia and the US. Jurors work in a cross-section of the industry and screen crafts, including direction, screenwriting, producing, acting, distribution and exhibition. Screenings were held in Australia and the US – we received access to films not yet released in Australia from local distributors. We consider the same films as other international screen organisations, including AMPAS, so that the AACTA International Awards are relevant, and the Australian industry is therefore part of the shared international screen awards conversation.
