EXCLUSIVE: NBC has given an off-cycle pilot order to a medical drama from writers/executive producers Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah (90210). The deal for the pilot with producer Sony Pictures TV is currently being finalized. The untitled project is an ensemble medical show about a group of Army doctors who return to work the night shift together at a hospital in San Antonio. Referred to as After Hours or The Last Stand, the Sachs/Judah project was one of several medical dramas NBC put in development last season. It picked up two of them, County and the Jekyll & Hyde-themed Do No Harm, to pilot and one, Do No Harm, to series for midseason. But NBC held onto the Sachs/Judah project after the upfronts and in August ordered a second script with an eye toward a pilot order.
This is the fourth off-cycle pilot ordered by the broadcast networks so far this development season, along with drama The Secret Lives Of Husbands And Wives at NBC, which is now casting, the Rob Greenberg comedy at CBS, which has been pushed to January, and comedy Super Fun Night at ABC, which is doing a new, single-camera version of Rebel Wilson’s multi-camera CBS pilot from last season. ABC also is redoing its pilot from last season The Kings Of Van Nuys aka Only Fools And Horses.
