‘MasterChef’ Renewed In China, ‘Minute To Win It’ Goes Local
Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine Group and the Shanghai Media Group have pacted for the second series of cooking reality competition show MasterChef China and for a local take on the beat-the-clock themed Minute To Win It. Both will go out on SMG’s Dragon TV. The first series of MasterChef China ends next week after so far reaching an audience of 118M. Pre-production is to start immediately on the new season and on Minute To Win It with both to air next year.
HBO Asia’s ‘Serangoon Road’ Adds ‘Dark Knight’ Actor
HBO Asia’s first primetime drama, Serangoon Road, has added Chin Han to the cast that’s already led by Joan Chen. Han has had roles in Hollywood films that include The Dark Knight, 2012 and Contagion. HBO Asia is teaming with Australia’s ABC TV for the 10-episode detective series set in 1960s Singapore. The Australia/Singapore co-production hails from Paul Barron’s Perth-based Great Western Entertainment and Singapore’s Infinite Studios. The show has also added local talent to guest star including Lim Kay Tong, Tan Kheng Hua, Edmund Chen and Xiang Yun.
Patrick Schult Creates Media-Stable
Former FremantleMedia Asia CEO, Patrick Schult, is launching Media-Stable, a Singapore-based outfit that will distribute Japanese formats and TV programs, as well as develop and distribute original content for the Asian market. The company has formed a capital alliance with Japanese producer Big Face with Media-Stable handling that group’s content including popular game show NumerOn. Big Face head of production, Shingo Ishiyama, will join the Media-Stable board. Ishiyama and Schult previously worked together at Fremantle.
