EXCLUSIVE: You know that Marvel Studios is moving forward with a superhero movie when there is a bake-off of young talent for key roles. The movie is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo have a short list of five hot actresses for a significant new role.
I’m not sure of the character, but evidently it’s a love interest for Steve Rogers (C
hris Evans). I’m told that Game Of Thrones‘ Eme
lia Clarke, Downton Abbey‘s Jessica Brown Findlay, Warm Bodies‘ Teresa Palmer, Knight Of Cups‘ Imogen Poots and The Five Year Engagement‘s Alison Brie are testing for it. I’m also hearing that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will be in the mix on this film. Marvel cleverly signs these actors on for as many as nine options, which gives them the latitude to cross-pollinate the films with multiple superheroes. At first this was annoyance to talent and their dealmakers — Marvel is known for being stingy — but The Avengers worked so well that it’s a career coup to be in the mix on Marvel movies because most of them turn out so well. And it certainly works for the audience.
Jessica Findlay Brown or Theresa Palmer deserves this. I would prefer Jessica Findlay Brown though she’s very talented. I don’t know if this is because I live in Australia but I feel like Theresa Palmer is always categorized as up and coming and she’s been around for over 5 years.
Agreed Teresa Palmer is the best candidate!! They keep on calling her up and coming because she keeps on getting roles that are not up to what she can bring as a solid actor. In every role I’ve seen her in I’ve wanted to see her have more screen time.
Allison Brie would be awesome especially since the russos are directing it and also direct her on community
Only one American actress in the running for the love interest of Captain America.
While both Peggy and Sharon Carter were American in the comics, they made Peggy British in the movie. Assuming this character is Sharon, I guess it makes sense for her to also be British and played by a British actress.
It’s not because evil foreigners want to take jobs from amazing american actors. Maybe it’s because they are BETTER? You know young actors in Britain or Australia learn acting. They do theater or learn it in schools or teachers.
While in USA everybody want easy money and fame. They don’t want to be good actors. They want fame and money. And usually they finish school, jump to car and go to L.A. to endless auditions. All they care is if their face is pretty enough to get part. And then we get all those awful pretty teenagers or young actors in TV shows that annoy everybody with their non-acting. No wonder that when casting directors have choice between talented actor from other country or pretty face from USA – they usually chose talent.

I think Scarlett J would be best for the love interest/conflict. Their both Avengers…he’s American, she’s Russian…he’s very good, she’s been very bad. Perfect movie match.
Um, the only conflict that would matter in that situation would be the fact that she and the Winter Soldier were lovers until the Red Room forced them apart by putting Bucky back into stasis. And considering that they’re currently a couple in the comic books (and have been since 2005), I seriously doubt Marvel would put Captain America and Bucky, of all their characters, in a love triangle.
If they are going to be true to the comic character of Black Widow at some point she needs to switch sides and go rogue. Black Widow is a wildcard that does not always play along with the heroes.
In “The Ultimates” (a comic series that heavily influences these films) Black Widow has Hawkeye’s wife and children snuffed and frames Captain America for the deed.
“The Ultimates”‘ influence on the film series is only superficial; the characters aren’t remotely based on their Ultimates versions. And Natasha has quite consistently been a good guy since she defected from the Soviets in the mid 1960s.

I also thought Amanda Righetti had the part on Captain at the end. And it makes even more sense to me that they choose her because I think she has:
A):Because she is on the mentalist and she has been in some kicking scenes.
B):Because she does look like she could play a believable Peggy Carter’s niece, did you saw her scene in The Avengers. She totally looked like Peggy’s niece to me.
C): Because I can actually picture her with Chris Evans,they are not so apart in height. Something much of the actresses running for this part lack of.
And do you saw when she was in Avengers and she is talking to Cap. and he realizes it is all a lie and brakes the wall.Well when he stars escaping isn’t it wierd that she says CODE 13 (and for those who don’t know Sharon Carter is named Agent 13, are you getting the connection).
And then again its just my thoughts you can think wathever you want but I think you should at least consider what I just wrote.

Probably just a throwaway role from The First Avenger. She was never specifically spelled out as being Sharon Carter. Fans speculated she would be and then there were rumors she was cast in Avengers, but those panned out not to be true.
Alison Brie is the quintessential American Girl Next-Door. She’s proven she can do drama and comedy. And she’s poised to break out big-time since she’s a huge fanboy crush actress.
And another thing, don’t forget that Winnie No Understandee Kwistmas.

You’re boring go watch some crap like Transformers, Battleship, etc. If you don’t like good movies with action and a good old retro 40’s vibe to it. Go watch a billion robots explode at once with girls with nice boobs running in slow motion.. Even though the ladder… is pretty awesome.
The Transformers/Battleship scripts were terrible and those movies were terrible. That doesn’t imply that Captain America’s script and end product was interesting. You are using what we call “short bus logic.” Just like you implying I like Transformers and Battleship. Peddle faster.

I thought Joss Whedon was setting up Ashley Johnson’s waitress character from The Avengers for Cap’s girlfriend. Joss is consulting on the Marvel Universe, but it would seem there are other factors at play.
Why did so many people think that random waitress was meant to be a love interest? Steve’s primary love interest in the modern comics is Sharon Carter, Peggy’s sister/niece, a secret agent, which is much more obviously plot-relevant.
Cut footage found on the Avengers DVD includes more Steve/waitress interaction and an extended bit of the TV interview where she’s all “Captain America saved me, etc.”. Conservation of detail in movies being what it is, the extra scenes of their interaction may have implied some sort of intention as a love interest in the earlier script or cut.
